The Princeton Varsity Club proudly welcomed Dr. Chris Thomforde ’69 back to Old Nassau as part of the Jake McCandless ’51 PVC speaker Series, on November 9th, 2010. He delivered his address, “Education for a Balanced Life,” at 7:30 PM at Dodds Auditorium, located inside Robertson Hall.

Dr. Thomforde was a three-year letterman on the Princeton Men’s Basketball team (1966-1969), winning Ivy League titles each of those years. He was a two-time All-Ivy League selection, and graduated from Princeton with the fourth-highest career point total in the history of its men’s basketball program at that time. He won the 1969 B. Franklin Bunn award, given annually to the member of the Princeton University basketball team who in play, sportsmanship and influence has contributed most to the sport.

Thomforde attended Yale University Divinity School, earning a Master of Divinity degree in 1974. He served as a university chaplain and pastor, and then became the President of Bethany College and, subsequently, St. Olaf College. He is currently the President of Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary in Bethlehem, PA. He additionally holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Princeton University, earned in 2000.

The Jake McCandless ’51 PVC Speaker Series began in 2004 with a lecture from NCAA President Myles Brand. The series was endowed in the name of J.
